As many of you know, I'm a high school librarian. One of the most repeated phrases I hear from my students is..."I want to read a book that deals with struggling teens...what do you recommend?"
While some teens want an epic fantasy adventure, others just want a real life STORY. One they can relate to. Characters that could be them...or their friend/s.
So...I have made it a TOP PRIORITY to add such books to our collection. Sure, we have the obvious popular choices (Thirteen Reasons Why, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Looking for Alaska, etc). And we have many "classics" on such topics. I'm looking for MORE. I want them all :)
There are numerous helpful resources out there...lists of books dealing with teen issues such as: eating disorders, body image, sexual abuse & rape, teen pregnancy, LGBTQ teens, bullying, suicide and death.
What have you read that fits this description? What would you recommend?
